My Favorite Web2.0 tools

Web2.0 is a web-based service providing technological applications that can be used daily in people's lives. It is also a tool for educators to use many of these applications and services in their classrooms for making learning interactive and interesting for their students. I can see many of these applications being used in the classroom to create a more interactive learning place for the students of all ages. These technological tools can be effective in the classroom because it will make students want to learn and be involved in the activity because it can be related to them and what they want to learn and how they want to learn it. The two web-based tools that I thought were interesting were: Dabbleboard and Google Sites.

Dabbleboard

This is a web-based whiteboard where a teacher can create lessons on for different subjects. A teacher can either sketch their own pictures on the whiteboard or he or she can choose from many of the pre-made shapes that dabbleboard provides in the application. I can see this being beneficial in a classroom because it provides a unique and interesting way to present a lesson to the students. Also, if the students are familiar with it, they will be able to use it in the classroom making lessons and activities more interactive.

Google Sites

Google Sites is a Google application that comes with a Gmail account. You can create your own website (it can be anything). I can see this being very useful in the classroom. A teacher can make a class website that is accessible to the students. On the website the teacher can post the syllabus and the assignments that the class would be doing during the week, month, or semester. I can also see it being beneficial for students that missed a class or classes due being absent. They would be able to print them out at home and not be behind.

About Me

I came to Salem 5 years ago from Los Gatos, California to go to college at Willamette University. I came to Willamette to get an education, but mostly to play softball. I have played softball for basically my entire life. I was a pitcher and started pitching when I was 7 years old. I was an All American which was a great achievement for me during my years at Willamette. During my four years, I was able to play softball, do well in school, and meet amazing people including my boyfriend of 31/2 years who played football at Willamette.

At Willamette, I majored in Sociology which I was told you could do anything and everything. After graduating from Willamette, I decided that I would apply for Willamette's MAT program because in the back of my mind, I always thought I wanted to be an elementary school teacher because I loved young kids. So now I am attending Willamette's MAT ASPIRE program!
